Linking the conventions of alternative rock to the video of
Twin Atlantic-Free
Distorted editing-
When watching this music video I see that the distorted editing starts when the bass, drums and heavy guitar start to play. The camera uses a continuous blur effect to create the distorted shot. By doing this it creates a connection with the music and beat, therefore, making it appeal to the target audience of this genre. The distortion of the shot links to the lyrics as they are commonly known for their abnormality.
Fast pace transitions-
Just like the distorted editing the quick transitions start when the heavy music does; this would be because these two are linked together to create an overall impact. This is the case for this song; the transitions add a professional look as they are timed perfectly. It links the visual stimulus to the beats, which allows the band to portray themselves with attitude.
Dim colours-
As the video is set in an underground area the set is dark and so are all the clothes. The lighting also contributes to the darkness, this through both the narrative and band footage. This links to the genre as it expresses them to be more rebellious and mysterious; the impression the genre would like to give.
Skinny jeans-
All band members are wearing skinny jeans. This is a stereotypical representation of someone of this genre and enables the audience to have a better connection to the band members.
Wearing dark clothes-
This is also a stereotypical representation of the style used by the people of this genre. It is also used to match the dark colour pallet of the setting exaggerating the 'mysterious' 'rebellious' effect.
Band footage-
Most of the music video is a focus on the band, it does have some narrative but only a little, this is done to make the video easier for the audience to relate to the band and make a better connection.
Focus on guitar-
The camera focus often drifts to the guitar and there are several close up on the instruments. By doing this the band are expressing talent and it links to the genre as electric guitars are indexical references to the genre which impacts the audience helping them portray the 'rock' theme.

Linking the conventions of alternative rock to the video of Blur
Rather than editing the effect on after to the music video this band distorts the camera using props and other objects on the set e.g. Smoke machine. This has been done to impact the audience more whilst keeping the music video upbeat and rebellious.
Fast pace transitions-
During Blurs music video the transitions pick up when the music does. This is used to keep the music in time with the visuals and helps create an 'out of control' atmosphere.
Dim colours-
The dark colours used throughout are red, black and grey, this is done to create a link to rebellion and the stereotypical view of this genre e.g red is a symbolic reference to danger. This makes the target audience, teenagers who want to rebel, relate to the band more.
Skinny Jeans-
All band members in this music video are wearing skinny jeans this is to represent the specific style the band try to portray, for example, it create the impression the band have an attitude. It is also a stereotypical representation of someone from the rock genre.
Dark clothes-
The music video tries to portray the meaning/feeling of the characters not caring in a rebellious fashion. Black clothes link to the stereotypical image of someone who would feel this way, therefore, the band members wear these style clothes to exaggerate the attitude.
Band footage-
This music video contains a narrative which involves the band members bouncing off walls. However, the video mainly focuses on band performance. This is used because they want to create a deeper connection between the fans and band members to get a sense of personality. This is to promote the bad further and have an impact on the bands reputation. This exaggerates the band 'bad attitude' and links in with the rebellious genre.
Focus on guitar-
The guitar is often in shot but never exaggerated. This is done because the band. In this video are trying to express bad attitude rather than the rock genre that's is connoted by a guitar.
