How old are you?- This allows me to determine what the average age of  the listeners are; establishing a target audience.

Gender?-Allows me to narrow the target audience to a specific gender.

What bands have you listened to?-Enables me to outline individual differences when concerning what alternative rock is. Which then allows me to work out an average of what  band have been heard.

Do you enjoy alternative rock music?-Enables me to see if the target audience enjoy listening to the music or whether it's something they don't listen to themselves but something their friends play and they don't enjoy it.

When considering a name for the Alternative Rock genre which do you think would be more appropriate?-This helps me use audience feedback to pick the most appropriate name, chosen by the target audience, which suits the genre.

Research into DigiPaks

Digipaks

Digipak is a patented style of CD, DVD or BD packaging.
Digipaks typically consist of a gate fold paperboard or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside.
Digipak-style packaging is often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums and the tall DVD digipak is often used as a premium package for DVDs and DVD sets.

The CD Digipak is a modern, stylish alternative to the standard CD jewel case. CD Digipaks are a custom printed card packaging that can hold one or more CD's which are held in place with plastic trays, which are glued into the digipak. CD Digipaks are especially popular in the music industry for CD albums as well as multiple CD disk sets. Digipaks give a product a expensive professional look and feel-especially when well designed CD artwork is combined”-http://www.discfactory.co.uk/packaging/cd-digipaks/

Equipment that I will use..

The camera I will be using whilst shooting the music video is the Sony Carl Ziess Vario-Tessar. This camera has:
-High Definition 1080 recording -Large Capacity 30 GB HDD
-Active Interface Shoe -ClearVid Sensor
-Enhanced Imaging Processor -Dual Recording
-10x Optical & 80x Digital Zoom -Memory Stick Duo Shot
-4 Mega Pixel Still Picture recording - 3.5” Clear Photo LCD Plus Screen

The camera is extremely easy to use with good quality. It's also easily carried around which means I am able to take pictures or film where I like, rather than where is convenient.
I will be using a Tripod. This allows me to keep shot are take particular angles without difficulty. A shot that is steady will create a more flowing and professional look; unless the a 'hand held' take is more appropriate.
When filming in the theatre I will be using a spotlight to create the dramatic impression on the lead singer as do many of the bands of my genre.
I will be placing a torch on top of my camera to try and create selective light on parts of the bands body during some of the band performance. This will relate to other bands of my genre.

Analysis of album covers

3 Doors Down Album Cover-

The main image on 3 doors down’s album cover is one of the band stood in a row, by doing this the audience get a good look at who is in the band and there is no main focus. However the lead singer is stood slightly closer to the camera. This may have been done to exaggerate that he is the most important/valued. The band is posing yet with determined facial expressions, rather than smiling happy facial expressions. This is done to portray the band of having some sort of attitude which relates to the stereotypical view of the genre. The colour pallet of the album is grey and black. The lack of colours relates to the convention of the genre and the contrasting white against those colours draw attention to the name of the band. The typeset is simple and bold; by doing this it doesn't over complicate the album cover and allows the audience to easily read the name and identify them.

30 Seconds To Mars Album Cover-

The main image on the album cover is of a boy; not of the band. This may have been done because it relates to the context of a song or the band feels it artistic or represents them in some way.  The background is white; by doing this it contrasts the colour of the boy in the image, this allows it to grab the audience’s attention. The typeset is bold, simple and red, which is easy to read. This is done as it contrasts against the white background and the bright colour stands out form the rest of the album; which gets the audience’s attention.

All Time Low Album Cover-

The main image is a drawing of people. The person closer to the camera doesn't has a face but has the album name on his t-shirt. This is done as it adds an artist style to the album making it different to other albums of this genre. The people in the background are in black and white yet the person in the front is wearing orange and above is green. These bright colours contrast against the black and white. The bands name is in bright orange matching the shirt of the person. The colour pallet all contrast allowing it to stand out and get the audience’s attention; achieving it’s purpose. The typeset is bold and easy to read, it doesn't over complicate the album and allows the audience to easily identify what band it is.

Bullet For My Valentine Album Cover-

The main image for this album cover is a mysterious church. The picture has been edited to create a dull, deserted look. This links to the mysterious stereotypical view of the genre and portrays the audience exactly what type of songs the album will contain. The picture is taken from a low angle to make the audience feel small and intimidated, creating a dramatic impact. The typeset is flicked and bold; by doing this it adds and artist effect making the band seem professional look but doesn't over complicate the album; the writing is still easy to read and enables the audience to easily identify it. The colour of the typeset is white. This is done to contrast against the dark colours in the background and allows the audience to read it easily.

Snow Patrol Album Covers-

The main image on the snow patrol album cover is a snow flake edited to stretch out to create a tube look. This is done to add a professional look making the audience believe they aren't amateurs, the image relates to the name of the band allowing them to make a connection. The background is black; by doing this it contrasts with the white snow flake making it stand out and grab the audience’s attention. The name is also in white, matching with the snow flake, the link adds an artistic professional. The name of the album is in red, another colour that contrasts with the black as well. All the contrasting colours adds to grabbing the audiences attention and making a artistic impact.

Locations

For my band performance I would like to use two areas. This forest scene is my first location, I would like to film when it is dark; which will create a mysterious effect linking to my genre. I would like my protagonist near the trees also jolting and moving rigidly. I think at night this would create a strange impact.

Actors for my video

Actors for Narrative One idea-

 Female Protagonist  1-

Female Protagonist 2-

Whilst looking for actresses to play the female protagonist of my narrative idea one, I considered these actresses as I believe that both of them have young faces. I could use this to my advantage to during the narrative to exaggerate the vulnerability of the character. Both are also drama students; which I feel is very practical when it comes to filming as it enables me to try lots of different angles and looks of the character. By doing this the impact on the audience should be bigger.

Actors for Narrative Two idea-

Male Protagonist 1-

 Make Protagonist 2-

When searching who can play the male protagonist of my narrative idea two I looked into these actors. The reason I chose these actors is because of their contrasting height. The height difference between these two actors enabled me to chose which was more effective and enhanced the feeling of insanity; this allowed me to explore way to film and portray the protagonist.

Final Actors

These actors are my final choice for filming. I have chosen narrative two to film. The reason I have chosen this is because it allows me to use numerous different camera shots and angles to really show the atmosphere and insane character. I also think that it would link with the quick pace and transitions more than narrative one.

For my male protagonist I decided to use this actor; I chose him mainly due to his height, as I would have the actor sat down. I believe that the taller the more uncomfortable someone would look. Therefore, this actor looks out of place and the uncomfortable feeling is one I would like to portray to the audience.

This is the male actor I have chosen for my lead singer. I have chosen him as he has black short hair; something that male lead singers of my genre have. He is also a drama student which gives me the ability to try different approaches with him.

Costume

Try our slideshow maker at Animoto.

If this doesnt work please try-
http://animoto.com/play/HaPULsRRh2e99ePK6LbAgQ

When looking into costume for my band to wear I realised that the lead male band members often wear a blazer with a plain t-shirt and skinny jeans with converse. As I have seen this I will use this style that relate to my genre  on my band members.

Inspiration#3

HBO – True Blood Main Title from DIGITAL KITCHEN on Vimeo.

When watching the opening to true blood the distorted effect and quick edited shots that are sped up inspired me. I would like to involve something like this into my video as I believe it would impact the audience more and really emphasis that the character in the narrative is going to be mental. The distorted effect is also a convention of my genre, therefore, enabling the audience to be able to relate to alternative rock and my track. I also found the impression of insanity it gave related to one of my narratives.

Narrative Idea's

Narrative Idea's

Idea One-

My first idea for the narrative was mainly relating to the lyrics of my song. I wanted a female protagonist who is being portrayed to be a prostitute. However, I would not do this through costume or mise-en-scene, I would do it through her actions. My idea was to her leave a bed and take money from a man's wallet and run. I would the use quick edits to match the tempo to show her running away through a forest. The line “money, money, money” would be as inspired me and the person eating the money would be a pimp like figure. The colours in the forest would be dull and dark, a slight distorted camera shot, to relate to a convention of my genre and so would the quick edits.

Idea Two-

My second narrative idea is to have a male protagonist in a room that is covered in paper that fills the walls. The paper will have words on it. The male will be in scruffy clothes with a crazy facial expression. I want this male protagonist to seem mental, therefore, I will get different angled camera shots of him rocking back and forth, pulling his hair, twitching and hitting the walls. As the track continues there is an instrumental, during this I would like the protagonist to hit the wall and start ripping the paper with mouth. Once again all the different camera angles with be put together in quick transition to relate to my genre and create a better impact on the audience. The camera will also have a distorted effect relating to another convention.

Distribution

How They Are Distributed?

HMV-

HMV is a British global retail chain. It sells games, posters, DVD's, accessories and mainly albums of bands from all different genres. 1921 the first shop was opening in London and the company has grew since then opening places now in Hong Kong. The shop is well known for selling all types of music and therefore, encourages people who aren't necessarily into the band to discover and buy it. The well known logo also indicated to the audience where they can buy the album. This method is easy as it allows the person to find and have hard evidence that they own the album.

iTunes-

iTunes is a media player computer programme used for playing, downloading, saving and organizing digital music and video files on a desktop or laptop personal computers. It can also manage contents on iPod, iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices.”- Wikipedia.

iTunes allows the audience to access the bands music without leaving their house. However, the money still goes to the band making it different from several other download sites. This is an easy way of distributing items as money is not wasted on packaging and other costs. This method allows the audience to easily and quickly access and buy the music they would like, although, they don't get a disc or albums case.

Marketing

How they are marketed?

Paramore-

Tour Poster-

This poster is advertising a tour that Paramore are participating in. The tour is clearly sponsored by Honda, the car company. This is shown through the small writing at the bottom and the car with a music related statement on it. The small writing also states the address to the Paramore website enabling the audience to see then access the page. The picture in the centre has been edited to create an artistic look, it creates the impression the band are professional. The poster also contains all band members portraying that the focus isn't on one particular member. The typeset is pretty basic on a simple layout, this means it doesn't over complicate the poster allowing the audience to find the information quick and easy; not over complicating it. This helps market the band as it answers their questions and gives them enough information to attend the tour.

Single Poster-

The colour pallet of the poster advertising the single is similar to the one advertising the tour; which create a repetitive theme allowing the audience to recognise the band straight away. The main image is one of the band posing around a piano. In this image the band are happy and posing. The connotations the audience get from this is that the band are happy and their focus is around the music. The album cover is also edited on to enable the audience to see what product they're buying making it easier for them to find. Another thing that helps this is the information that is made to look stuck on the side. It helps market the band as it gives the audience a clear understanding of the what they're going to buy and where.

Razorlight-

The Razorlight poster is the album cover with edited on information. The plain white background creates a simplistic relaxed feel about the advertisement. This means that the poster is not over complicated and therefore doesn't confuse the audience. The image is also edited in an artistic way, like the Paramore one, This gives the audience the impression that the band are professional and not armatures encouraging them to listen to the album. The typeset is simple and consistent throughout; which also emphasis the professional look and adds to the simplistic effect. This helps market the band as the information about the album is quick and easy to find and not too complicated. This means the audience are more likely to find and buy the product.

Vampire Weekend-

The Vampire Weekend poster advertising their new album is extremely simplistic. One half is a box with the face of the album cover; which makes it personal to the band. The other half is simple typeset with a dark colour pallet and simple layout giving a small bit of information. Although the information provided isn't a lot, it give the audience enough to know who the band is what the album is called and when it is out. This poster is simple and doesn't over complicate what it's advertising as it is very personal to the band. This doesn't necessarily help market the band but it gives the audience enough information to buy the bands product.

A common feature of all posters are that they are very simplistic and posed with a simple layout and typeset. As all posters I have analysed relate to my chosen genre, I will also try to involve the repetitive designs in my poster.

Research into how magazines advertise albums/singles

Reckless love in Kerrang –

This magazine article advertises Reckless Love’s album ‘Animal Attraction’. When looking at the page the main central image are the band members posing with a snake. This picture appeals to the audience as it connotes a certain rock look; one that is stereotypical of the genre. When looking at this picture it appeals to the audience by giving the band a rebellious attitude look, this is through the clothes and facial expression. The band’s name is in bold typeset just above the article, this isn’t bold and doesn’t stand out and doesn’t over complicate the advertisement. The information is small in the corner; this would be used to keep the majority of the viewers focus on the images of the band. There is a small article at the bottom of the page giving information on the band. This allows the audience to know about the band.

Pulled apart by horses in Kerrang-

Pulled Apart By Horses album ‘Tough Love’ is advertised in a short article at the front of the magazine. The article is small and sponsored by HMV which is highlighted through the purple background and the large HMV logo and slogan at the bottom.  The writing is in white simple typeset this is done to keep consistency with the HMV style and not over complicate the advertisement. The only image relating to the band is the album in the middle. This is small and doesn’t create an impact on the audience, it doesn’t give a sense to the attitude or likeability of the band.

Lighting Research

All time low-
In All Time Low's music video 'Dear Maria' there is subtle lighting used. Throughout the video there is a monochrome effect on the characters faces, this would be used to highlight the band members and characters subtly to create a contrasting affect against the dull background. The lighting in general isn't too dark, this would relate to the context of the narrative because of the setting. The set used wouldn't be an upbeat bright place or a dark miserable place so the lighting is used to allow the video to relate to real life. This enables the audience to believe the narrative more and create a connection between the narrative and the song lyrics. There are neon lights used in the background but these aren't used to create an impact on the audience; they're put there to once again make the set more realistic. Every so often in the music video a light will shine brightly and cover parts of the screen, this is due to over exposer and used to enable the audience to get the sense of the atmosphere of the narrative once again making it more believable and easily to relate to. When the lighting is focused on the girl there is a slight, hardly noticeable change of lighting which gets brighter. This would be as they are idolising her as a perfect woman, when the lighting gets slightly brighter it makes the audience feel as if she is glowing (with perfection?) This will change how the audience feel about the specific character creating a larger impact.

A day to remember-
In A Day To Remember's music video 'Have Faith In Me' the lighting is used to emphasise the meaning of the lyrics and create a bigger impact. The band footage at the beginning and through has dark lighting in the back the light shining on their face. This is done to portray the mysteriousness of the band to the audience relating to the stereotypical view of band this genre, it adds a dramatic view which relates to the context of the song. The narrative is in normal lighting, this is done to show realism; it's trying to show a normal day so little lighting is needed to express the meaning and point of the narrative. At the end the the band members are in a white room with bright lighting and the narrative are in a black room with light lighting on their faces this id done to contrast each scene and enable the audience to see the difference in opinion and feelings. This, therefore, creates a bigger impact on the audience as they feel as if they can relate to it.

Rise Against-
Rise Against's music video 'Make It Stop' uses normal lighting throughout the narrative. This is done as it's a very powerful issue they are singing about, the editing would decrease the amount of impact it makes on the audience. The subtle lighting enables the audience to focus on the meaning and make the audience relate to it easier. The band performance is done with dark lighting and backing lights around the performers. This is done as it's set in a gym hall, relating to the context of the song, the backing lights allow the audience to see the band and not distract them from the song lyrics or narrative. It also gives the band a mysterious look which relates to the stereotypical view of alternative rock.

“Ellipsoidal reflector spotlight or 'Profile Spot's the name for a type of stage lighting instrument, named for the ellipsoidal reflector used to collect and direct the light through a barrel that contains a lens or lens train.” - Wikipedia
This instrument will allow the light to be shone on the faces of the performers, whilst allowing the background to remain dark as seen in most videos of alternative rock genre.

Alternative Rock Mood Board

I created this mood board with images I feel express the Alternative Rock genre. Although the mood board may be what is stereoptypical of the genre, I feel that it will help inspire me decide what impression my actors should give. For example, despite my track being Alternative Rock rather than normal rock, I would want the majority of the clothes and props to be be relating to rock with slight changes (a little more colour) to create difference between the genres.

Inspiration #2

I found the music video for Paramore's song 'monster' as something that created a dramatic impact whilst considering options for narratives being shown in my own video. The main thing that appealed to me when watching this was the protagonist hitting the walls combined with the quick edits. I would like to use someone acting insane and hitting walls as well, I like this as I believe the narrative could link to my music lyrics, using one of the Goodwin's theory rule, to create the same striking impression on my audience. I also believe that the quick edits will match the conventions of my genre and relate to the tempo of the song keeping it flowing and professional. All the options linked together would enable the audience to see a sense of craziness, allowing the music video to really impact the audience.

Reasearch into labels

Beggars Banquet

"Beggars banquet are and English independent record company. It started by a string of shops owned by Martin Mills and Nick Austin. It was founded in 1973 and covers various genres. They are one of the labels Biffy Clyro uses, who are of the alternative rock genre. In 2008 they became a catalog label only. So it’s closed to new signings.  It is the largest and most influential independent group of labels in Europe. The group is managed by Martin Mills, Managing Director Paul Redding and non-executive Andy Heath Their main offices are in the UK with a large satellite office in New York City."

Roadrunner Records

"The record company was founded in 1980. It was founded by Cees Wessels. It covers the genre of hard rock and heavy rock, which covers alternative rock bands like Biffy Clyro; relating it to my genre. Roadrunner records initially started out importing North American metal-band recordings into Europe. Yet in 1986, Roadrunner opened its US headquarters in New York City and later opened offices in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, Australia, Denmark and the latest in Canada. Roadrunner handled the early Metallica releases. December 18, 2006, Warner Music Group signed an agreement to purchase a majority in shares (73.5%) of Roadrunner Records' parent company. Roadrunner Records was voted as the "Best Metal Label" by Metal Hammer at their Golden Gods Awards an award that it has won the past four years in a row.
However, Roadrunner has also been accused of being a label only interested in current or trendy alternative music, reflected by their roster of mainly popular and metal core acts."

V2 Records

"The record company was in 1996 by Richard Branson, five years after he sold Virgin Records to EMI. The record label is owned by Universal Music Group as of October 2007. Ultimately, the label was owned 95% by Morgan Stanley and 5% by Branson because Morgan Stanley was the chief financier of the company. V2 now operates in Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, Sweden, United Kingdom, and United States. In April 2005, Cooperative Music was set up by the V2 Music Group as a transnational marketing and distribution operation which licenses independent labels, as opposed to individual artist companies which is the standard industry practice, for release in Europe, Australia and Japan. They are the label to Two Door Cinema Club who are alternative rock; which is my genre."
Respire Records

"Reprise Records is an American record label, founded in 1960 by Frank Sinatra. Many of the older artists were dropped when Sinatra sold the label to Warner Bros. Records in early 1963 due to insufficient sales. Reprise president Mo Ostin was retained as the head of the label and he went on to play a very significant role in the history of the Warner group of labels over the next four decades. They are the label to My Chemical Romance, who is a band of my alternative rock genre."

Red Bull Records

"Red Bull was founded in 2007 and is a U.S independent record label located in Culver City, California. It was launched with Red Bull building a recording studio in Santa Monica, California and recording small indie bands for free. David Burrier, former vice president of marketing at Atlantic Records, is currently running the label as general manager, with Merrideth Chinn, formerly with Warner bros records, heading up A&R. The label is currently distributed by RED Distribution. They are the label to Twin Atlantic which is a band relating tom my specific genre of alternative rock."

Technical aspects

THREE DAYS GRACE-NEVER TOO LATE

Camera shots-

-Ariel shots = Approx 12 shots.
-Extreme Close up = Approx 11 shots
-Close up = Approx 25 shots
-Medium shot = Approx 11 shots
-Long Shot = Approx 3 shots

Editing-

Beginning fades from black to light up the background- This is used to match the sense of sadness and slow tempo that is played at the beginning of the song.
Singer in the foreground and narrative in the background blurred- Although this isn’t constant, it is used to create a meaningful connection between the singer himself and the storyline. It suggests the subject is something that means a lot to him.
Blurred effect to a sharp picture- The blurred effect to sharp image creates a way of changing focus without a sharp cut and allows the audience to focus on both the video and music. It also gives the music video a soft meaning.
Silhouette of the singer with narrative in the background- The silhouette suggests to the audience that he cannot help the narrative in the background. He’s there yet unable to help.
Light fades to black- Like the beginning; it uses this midway and at the end to contrast to the beginning.  It also adds a mystery effect.
The song speeds up, so does the pace of the transitions- This is too adds the conventions of the genre and allows the music to fit to the video, it seems to flow.
Edited wings on a man and a butterfly- The edited affects are to add to the meaning of the narrative and portray the meaning more.

Lighting-

The lighting is dark throughout the band performance to give a mysterious impact on the audience it also is a convention of the alternative rock genre. Although, the light is on the band members’ face, this is done to identify who they are without drawing to much attention to the band and distract from the narrative.
Through the narrative the lighting is normal as it’s trying to express the girl’s life; although it isn’t normal. They are trying to make an impact with the storyline itself not effects or lighting changes.

Mise-en-scene-

Narrative- The narrative has two settings. The first setting is of the girl at a younger age in and just outside of a bedroom, with mainly pastel colours to try to express the innocence of her despite the fact what is happening to her is the opposite and dark. The clothing on the child also connotes innocence. The second setting is of the girl when she’s older in a psychiatric hospital. So the stereotypical view of that room is taken with the apparatus. She wears the same clothing as the child, which tries to express the connection between her and the younger child it also connote she has that same of innocence.
Band footage- The setting is in a dark room with little lighting and the bands instruments. This simplistic style is effective as it doesn’t over complicate the music video.

THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS-CLOSER TO THE EDGE.

Camera shots-
As the video is 5 minutes and 19 seconds long I only analysed 1 minute 23 seconds of it. This is because the camera shots are repetitive.

-Close up = Approx 18 shots

-Medium shot = Approx 16 shots

-Long shot = Approx 10 shots

-Extreme long shot= Approx 11 shots

Editing aspects-
The beginning and the end of this video uses clips from audience speaking about there relationship with music, the sound is very acoustic making it hard hitting and dramatic. This is done as it makes the audience believe the band has a close relationship with the fans and they listen to their thoughts and feeling, this means the audience will feel closer to the band creating a connection and appealing to the target audience by paying attention to their needs. The video has edited in the names of the band members and the places the band are performing at. This is done once again to inform the audience and appeal to target audience by allowing to see the band are interested in the audience rather than it being all about fame. It gives the band the reputation that they are ‘real’ and ‘easy to relate to’. These qualities appeal to the target audience as it gives them attention.
Lighting aspects-
There is no specific lighting that is constantly used throughout the music video. There is the live footage which involves dark and strobe lighting, this is done to appeal to teenagers as the atmosphere of a gig will draw them in and interest them. When the focus is on the lead male singer he is a dark room with light on his face, this is to create a dramatic impact; which is to relate to the hard hitting effect meaning of the music video. The band together and separately are shown outside, no particular lighting is used, they have done this to once again emphasise the effect they are ‘real’ and they don't need editing or make themselves something they aren't.
Settings-
There are several scenes shown in this music video:
  • The setting of the gig- There is a large stage and the band members are dressed in dark clothes. The setting is used to appeal to the target audience they feel, by allowing the audience to see the raw music gigs they perform it will encourage them to see the band live themselves; increasing sales.
  • A stage with a spotlight- The dark stage with only a spotlight on the instrument and face/body part of the band member creates a dramatic impact giving the band a dark mysterious reputation which appeals to the target audience of teenagers and young adults.
  • A city setting- A city setting is used to express the variety of places the band have performed creating the impression they are experienced and are good performers, opposed to ‘fake’ performers. It appeals to the target audience as they know they can perform; it proves to them they can.

MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE-TEENAGERS

Camera Shots-
-Extreme close up= Approx 2 shots
-Close up= Approx 17 shots
-Medium shot= Approx 52 shots
-Long shot= Approx 18 shots
-Extreme long shot= Approx 7 shots
Editing Aspects-

The beginning of the music video starts with an edited acoustic sound. This is done as in the video they're singing in an empty school hall, the sound is one that relates to the noise that would actually be made in that setting. This appeals to the teenagers as it is a place they can relate to, it also links to the context of the song allowing the audience to relate to meaning/lyrics of the it. There isn't any obvious visual editing; which may have been done to portray the 'real' side of the band. Apart from the quick transitions which are made to match the beat of the song making the music video flow more and create a better impact.

Lighting Aspects-
When the transitions occur the stage lighting becomes exaggerated and covers the screen in light leading in to the next shot. This is done to keep the music video flowing without over complicating the video and relating in to the music videos context. The lighting during the narrative is dark, this is to portray the mysteriousness and rebellious attitude of the teenagers enabling the directors to associate to the teenage target audience as they can relate to it.

Mise-en-scene-

Setting.
The setting is in a school hall. This is used to relate to the surroundings that a teenager is used to relating to both the context and target audience. To make it more realistic all the props were real, like school chairs and the stereotypical school stage, this is done to give the target audience something to associate with the lyrics and themselves.
