Start of A2 media.

This is my A2 media blog. Our task in this is to create a music film whilst analysing and researching into different aspects of of the music video industry and learning theorist views and appling them to appropriate music videos, I will then compine the knowledge i have learnt and apply them to my own music video.

Research: Audience&Insitutions/ analysis of short films.

APRICOT-

The genre is romance.

Alot in the short film appeals to me. The transition that easily flow using a quick cut and fading technique, this brings the piece together which is stereotypical to the genre and making the film look professional.

I also like the way the camera angles are shot as they influence how we see the characters, we get to know the characters personality making certain links between the flashbacks.

The film is structured where it flashbacks into the past, it creates a realistic effect and runs smoothly, like it's what the woman is genuinely thinking. As it's her memories.

I believe everyone above 16 is the target age. I feel that the genre influences this as it has to be something the audience can specifically relate to.

The film is mostly based around the theme love and romance as that is it's genre. We also see the sub-theme as memory though as throughout the plot we see the male protagonist cannot remeber his childhood and he infact links to the child hood the girl knows, the subtle link is shown through apricot.

LAST THREE MINUTES-

The genre of this short film is nostalgic, it does not a fall into any particular genre. It is based around the 'big cirlce of life'.

“The day when Shane asked me to come up with “The Last 3 Minutes” treatment I was so excited. I knew that I did not have to limit my vision and could go wild because of what this camera can do. I wanted to write a story which would enable us to showcase different kinds of lighting scenarios and extreme camera angles that will touch audiences hearts. Visuals without a story have no meaning. My own little philosophy about life is that life is like a BIG CIRCLE. We are all born INNOCENT. No matter how many wrong doings or right things we have done, at the last minutes before death we will again become innocent. This is the big circle of life and it is the inspiration behind “The Last 3 Minutes.” The main element in this film is the CRYSTAL that William carries with him, which represents the theme of INNOCENCE and William’s own conscience. A crystal refracts light, so when William looks inside it each refraction becomes a different memory in the course of his life. It is analogous to peeling back layers of an onion with the center layer being just at the moments before death. All of the elements in this film: casting, music, wardrobe style and color, make up (the lipstick color on the actress), hairstyle and color, set dress pieces and the texture of those pieces to the look of the crystal. Everything was carefully planned and considered to make sure every element worked in concert with the story, together in harmony.”

What really appeals to me about this short film is the link between each transistion to make the movie flowing and smooth. It also gives the film a professional look. This makes it easier to sympathise with the protagonsit as the film is realistic.

The film is structed to create the impression the protagonist is having a flash back of his life. Therefore the shots go backwards until he is a baby. Linking to the directors point of everyone being the same when they are born to them being the same before they die, helpless.

I dont think that I am the target audience as this film wants a mature responce. So, i believe it would be aimed at people age 30-60's.

The theme of this short film is memory and remembering past experiences.

TICK TOCK-

I dont believe this short film has a specific genre. The several different themes are shown through the captions that appear throughout the short film. this is effective as it keeps the audience well informed.

Personally this is my favourite out of all the short films. The film is shot backwards which is following and easily believable, it adds a dramatic effect to the short film making it hard hitting, which i believe, would have been the directors intentions.
The camera angles and shot compliment the directors point as it shot in medium close up. This allows us to the vunerabilty of the protagonist and sympathise with him more.

The sound track used it also very suitable. The constant heartbeat throughout and the hard hitting music keep the audience interested.

The film was shot then revearsed giving the audience the impression he cant rewind time. It create a dramatic atmosphere and keeps the audience interested.
