Website #Bio

The Bio Page

To start my bio page I first added the name of the artist. I did this because when I was researching into website the band/artists name was always at the top so I decided to also add this feature. I added the name in the same typeset and colour to make my website seem organised and adds consistency. I then added a black long box where my information will go. I did this as a way to highlight the information and separate it from what other aspects that might be added onto the page.

My next step was to add all the information in the boxes.I made the typeset small as this was a common feature that I had noticed on other websites. It also allowed me to fit in lots of information on my artist; giving the audience more information. The colours I chose to put my typeset in were red and white, I did this as both colours contrast against the black box. My aim of this would be to create an impact.

The next thing I did was to add different boxes along side of the main box. In these boxes I will add information about the artist with 'albums' 'influences' 'favourite charities' and 'quick facts'. I have put these in so the audience can select and find information they want quick and easily.

One of the boxes had my artist influences in. For these I chose Simon Neil the lead singer in Biffy Clyro, Jared Leto in 30 seconds to mars and Sam McTrusty the lead singer of Twin Atlantic. I have chose these because they are all lead singers of alternative rock bands and would be people who inspire my artist.

Another box was of my artists favourite charity, I had noticed this feature on Paramore's website and used it as I believe it gives a personal connection between the artist and the audience. It help the audience get to know the artist and his beliefs.

In this box I put simple information that the audience would most likely want to know. I did this as it allows the audience to find this information quick and and easy, rather than searching through the main information. I found this feature to be useful  as it summaries my artist.

The final things I did was add the album covers and a picture to represent him. The album covers where previous picture I had and added the album names and artist name so the album seems personal. The picture is a direct address this engages the audience and creates the impression they know 'Sam'.

Website #Tour Dates

Tour Dates Page

When looking at other artists of my genres websites an aspect that I noticed was common were that boxes of a dark colour was used so I decided to use the same feature.

Before editting the box more, I decided to add the title. When doing this I considered consistancy and therefore used the same style and colour writting that I had previously used on store and the enter page.  I feel the consistant typeset would add a realistic look and constantly reminds the audience what genre it is. I also put the red stains on the page to reinforce the rebellious attitude. The next step I took was changing the background. I chose the same background as the enter page and the store page this also creates consistancy; which I feel is needed when creating a website of this genre.

The box I had before, I felt, was to childish for my genre. I changed the box to a simple black one with red lines toseprerate information. For inspiriation I used All Time Lows webiste who also used this feature. However, to differ from then add a unique style I chose different colours that I felt represented my artist more. I also used the dates and venues from the All Time Low website. The reason I did this was to get a realistic view on what the artists schedule would be. Another aspect I found common was the layout of the 'date' 'venue' 'location' and 'ticket' then an RSVP response, so I used inspiration from both All Time Low and We The Kings and added this feature.

INSPIRATION

I used these to pages that are both from my genre as inspiration. I have used the feature of the RSVP button, to enable the band to be shared on social networking account and therefore raise awareness of them. I have also used the style of box and lines to make my page look more professional.

Website #Store

The Store Page

The first thing I did when considering the 'store' page of my website was to create products to go on it. To make the page have a more realistic feel I ccessed a website on google which allowed me to create my own clothes. I then created a variety of clothes I observed on other band websites and followed there style. After making them I took screen shots and created a slide show to give the impression that the audience could chose what colour clothing they want. I felt these aspects gave the 'store' a realistic look. I then lined them up in a way that I had seen on websites of my genre and in a way that still created a simplistic style.

I then added prices. The price and discription I made grey to continue the dark colours, that are the theme of my genre. The prices I chose followed the prices that I had previously seen on website whilst doing my research; I did thhis to keep the store realistic.

An feature that is important is the title. I wanted the title to be large and to stand out; to create an impact on the audience, yet, stick to my genre. To do this I used the same font as the title screen and placed it in red at the top and in the center of the page; by doing this it should grab the audience attention straight away. When looking on the paramore website I wsaw that they had a sale. In order to make my website store like others Ihad researced into I decided to add a winter sale. I put this in white typeset as white connotes snow and winter. The colour also contrasts with the black background. Another feature I added to allow my website to have consistancy was the red stain around the website; like on my enter page. This not only creates the sense of consistancy it also reinforces the sense of a rebellious attitude.

Website #Home page

The Home Page

The first aspect I considered was the background colour when looking into the home page, I chose black to continue the typical colours of my genre. I then added a title in the same typeset as my enter page and colour. Once again this was to add consistency and enable the audience to establish a connection between the artist and the genre as this typeset is one typical of the alternative rock gene. I then added stains to show the audience the rebellious attitude my artist would like to portray.

I then  had to add the icons to direct the audience to the page they want. When looking on 'All time low' 's website I saw they had used icons to represent different aspects of their page. I thought that this was an interesting feature that added to the simplistic design I was aiming for; with this in mind I then added line drawings as button. I did this to follow the conventions of websites of my genre.
In the space left I plan to add an album cover, as this was an aspect that I found was common on websites of all genres. I also found this would be a great way to advertise the song to the audience and it gives them the option to buy the album.

The final thing on my home page was to add the album and advertise it. For this I used a typewriter typeset. This is a simplistic style and clear enough for the audience to read and recognise the information. 'Days end' the album name is in a different font, this adds emphasis on the album title and grab the audience attention. I also added 'out now' in a different typeset and colour meaning that it didn't distract from the more  important information but shows that its something the audience should look at.

Inspiration
These are the icons that inspired me to create my icon when directing the audience to the page they want. This is from 'All Time Lows' website.

Website #enter page

When considering creating a website I first found a reliable site that allowed me to, therefore I used Wix.
Once on Wix I chose a template I thought once edited would look appropriate to my genre and create an impact.

1. This is the template I chose, when looking at the placing of the pictures I could imagine pictures of my artist and the simple layout resembled ones that I had looked at originally when doing research.

2. I then changed the background to black. I did this as it is the colour most appropriate to
genre and matches the attitude that my artist would portray. I also felt that the black would enable the other colours to stand out more; making more of an impact.

3. My next step when creating my website was to delete all the boxes and picture to have a clear black back ground. When looking at other band websites of my genre a common aspect was a page with large writing or a symbol on to lead you into the actual website (For example, 30 seconds to mars and paramour website use this feature). This inspired me to do add this feature on my website. To do this I took the large font of my advert and pasted this on to the 'enter' page. I did this to create a sense of consistency and a professional look.

4. When looking at the background I thought it looked slightly dull and a page of my genre would at least have some effect, with this in mind I then chose a grey background that looks like a dirty wall/metal. I also felt that the page looked plain and needed some features to exaggrate the 'rebellious' theme. To improve on this I added different sized paint stains; this was to reinforce the sense that my artist has a subdersive attitude. However, I still thought that the page didn't create enough impact and decided that making the words 'Confidential Riot' flash would make the words stand out. Finally, I linked both 'Confidential Riot' and the word 'Enter' to the home page.

Inspiration for my choice

This was my inspiration for the 'Enter Page'. The 30 Seconds To Mars website uses a singal feature and added a spinning animation to it.  I liked the feature and tried to add animation to my product but having a flash animation. These I feel grab the audience intrest and give the audience a specific idea of what genre the artist is.

Picture- Magazine advert.

After taking several shots using the photographs I have seen as inspiration, I was able to narrow down my photographs to one main option. I chose this as it allows me to edit and write on the photo without it looking out of place. I also think the design is appropriate to my genre and once editted and create a dramatic effect; which I am looking for as I believe most in the alternative rock genre do.

Original Picuture-

Part of my process when editing my picture was to make it black and white. I also increased the whiteness of the yellow colours to make the half of the picture which shows skin become even brighter. I have done this as I feel it adds a certain dramatic effect; which relates to my chosen genre.

When the picture was taken the model had 'Riot' written on his hand; as I originally thought this would relate the picture to the band and create an artistic effect. However, when I came to edit my photo I found that the writing looked unprofessional and created a distraction from the drama of the photo itself. This means mean I had to remove the writing of the models wrist to create more focus on the artist.

Artists Name Font And Editing-

When creating the magazine advert i had to consider the typeset of my bands name. These are the options I considered:

Typeset 1) I like the aspect of dirtiness with this typeset as I believe it links appropriatly to the attitude my band would like to poprtray; when taking into account my genre of alternative rock. However, I felt it didnt create a big impact when looking at it from and audiences perspective.

Typeset 2) The lines coming off the typeset reminded me of music beats and this I tought would appeal to the audience and make it clear that they are a band. I also felt the 'shockwave' effect gave it a sense of attitude. However, I felt it over complicate the advert as I am keeping the rest of the advert simple, this typeset would look out of place.

Typeset 3) When choosing this typeset I believe it created a worn down effect that can be assosiated with the attitude my band would like to create. Although, I believe the lines over complicate it  and take away the simplistic style I was originally aiming for.

Typeset 4) This typeset I feel not only provided the 'attitude' my genre would like to portray but the simplistic style I was looking for. I experimented  with taking editing the typeset but fely it worked better as an original.

After experimenting with the size and positioning of the typeset I came to the conlusion that this position and size fitted it the best. The postitioning allows the audience to see clearly the name of the artist; which enables them to easily identify with the band. The size also makes it easier to see and read, it also helps the typeset to stand out to the audience. I chose the colour red specifically because I believe the contrast with the black and white picture allows the name to stand out. I also believe that it suits the rebelious portrayal of the genre; this allows the audience to have a breif idea of genre the artist is if they have never heard of them.

I then decided to edit the typeset as it looked plain and didn't create as much as an impact as it could have. To add dramatic effect I created ainner shadow, this was to add a darker effect around the typeset and add some fading to make the typeset look more professional and detailed. I then added an outer glow, this was to create definition around the typeset to seperate the colours slightly more by using a colour that contrasts with the background. I used the ineer glow to create the same effect but this time i used a arker colour so the colours would blend and look proffessional. After this I used the bevel and embass effect, this allowed me to create and effect whichgave the typeset a smoother and 3D effect. I felt this worked as it jumps out to the audience as the effect resembles one thatjumps out the page. FinallyI used the stroke effect (as shown above) by doing this it allowed the typeset to look more in place and smooth, by matching the colour with the light grey on his hair it stayed with in the colour pallet and created consistancy as seen through most music magzine adverts. My final typeset for my title is as the one shown above.

My next step was to add  the 'released on' section. While anaylsing other magazine adverts a common aspect that I found was that this typeset is simplistic and this is to not over complicate the advert. I have followed this rule and picked a simple typeset and added a dark inner glow, to create a detailed fading effect and an outer shadow, to allow the typeset to stand out; this makes it easier for the audience to read it.

For the release date I wanted to show importance. I did this through making the colour the same as the title and larger than the 'released on'  this adds dramatic effect and enables the audience to pick out the specific information when required. To create more of an impact I added an inner glow to show a fading effect making it stand out more.

For the featuring and the song name I repeated what I had done before. I did this to create consistancy and therefore looks the typeset professional. The colours allow the audience to select the important information.

To make the advert relate to real adverts I added the where the CD would be available. I picked HMV and iTunes as these are the place that aim for my target audience therefore I believe they are approriate to my genre.

After looking at my magazine advert I relaised that it didnt have enough information on it. I changed the top of the magazine advert and added an album name in a scratchy white font to create contrast and make it stand out. The style of the typeset  also creates a rebellious look relating to my genre. I then made the font below smaller to stop the page looking over complicated. I also changed the colour to grey and red, the grey doesnt stand as it's not important imformation and the red draws some intrest but not too much meaning the audience arent distracted by the use of several different contrasting colours.

This is my final piece, I have moved my label to the top so the audience can see the picture fully and get the full impact.

Inspiration- Magazine Advert

When looking for picture that interest me and relate to my genre, I came acroos these images. These inspirated me as I feel they bring the specific atmosphere my advert of my genre should create.

I'm using these as inspiration as I think the dramatic effect the balck and white effect creates matches the attitude and atmosphere I wish to portray, relating to my drama.

I would like to use this as my main inspiration as it's an album cover, therefore, it relates to the music industry in generally and I like the black and white effect and how the artists face is highlighted by the contrast. However, in mine the typeset will be lighter to add slight colour and add personality.

Font Mood Board

I have found several different typesets that I thought are appropriate to my specific genre. By creating a short list of the fonts it allows me to compare which one is more suitable and creates the most effech; which then enables me to pick the most suitable typeset.

Magazine Advertisment Analysis-Magazine Advert#1

Target Audience- 40+

Main Colour Pallet- Cerise, black and brown

The central image is of the female protagonist lay provocativly on the bed, looking away from the camera. This is the artist album cover.
The background behind the album cover is a blurred sheet effect; which is also cerise and black, keeping consistancy with the colours.
Above the central image there are three lines of writing. The first line is the albums name in a artistic typeset. The line below that is simply a line that lets the audience know the name below is the name of the singer. The third line is the name of the artist 'Diana Krall' this is in fancy typeset. This is done to add importance.
The second, forth and sixth lines that are below the album cover are also in a bold typeset; once again highlighting importance to the audience.
The first second and third lines are simpler, as they arent as important, they are just introducing what the information stated on the next line would be.

Target Audience- 20+

Main Colour Pallet- Black, yellow and white

The central image is a plain black background with the artists image to the right, in black and white; by doing this it adds dramatic effect.
The first and second lines are the artists name in a simplistic plain white typeset, this doesnt over complicate the advert and relates to it's genre.
The third line is in the same typeset but yellow. This is the albums name and allows the audience to locate the correct information quicker.
There is a small line, also following the simplistic theme, seperating the basic information from the more important information.
The same typest is used again, as it's consistant, which states the release date.
The fifth and sixth lines are providing the audience the information of what songs are featured on the album. This may allow the audience to create a link or relate to it more.
In small under the writing is the website for the artist.  This enable the audience to be able to find more information if they require it.
The small icon in the right next to the artist is the record label, making assosiation from the artist to the label easy and recognisable.

Target Audience- 17-30

Main Colour Pallet- Gold, black and white

The central image is the bands cover. Enabling the audience to identify immediantly with the band and show them what they should be looking out for if they want to buy it.
The background from the cover is used as the background on the advert. This is done to create a link and reinforce the bands attitude/atmosphere they want to create. However, it does look repetitive, therefore, I personally do not think it's effective.
Under the bands cover ther eis the name of the artist and the vinyl name. This is in a goldy brown typeset, which stick to the colour pallet relating to their chosen genre. However, it is small, which make is harder for the audience to read.
Under the basic information there are two paragraphs in small typeset that are giving in depth detail about the product trying to create an interest.
The last line are the labels assosiated with the artist.
The final line underneath a small logo pattern is the website for the artist, enabling the audience to get more information if the require.

Target Audience- 30-70

Main Colour Pallet- White blue and black

The large main picture is of the silhouette of a male dressed in a hat and a trench coat. This instantly identifies to the audience that it is for the older age range. The artist is walking alon a dull (added by effect) road, with barely any colour. However, despite the lack of  colour the large amount of white means the picture is still very bright, this allows the audience to create a link between the artist and the genre.
The typeset is simplistic, so the audience can retrieve the information easily if required. It also indicates that it is aimed for an older audience as it isnt too complicated.
The artists names is in a larger typeset than the restand is in a navy blue; by doing this it exaggerates the sense of importance and allows them to spot it easier.
The information in italics is a quoted review and can be easily identified.
The information at the bottom of the page is the release date, once again the change of colour to navy blue indecates the level of importance.
Beneath this is the distribution information and enables the audience to see how to buy the product if they wish.
In a small typeset at the bottom is the artists website information, allowing the audience to access more information on and about the artist if they would like to.
The box in the bottom left corner is the record label which is linked to the band. The white box surronding this makes it easy to see.

By analysing these and seeing the convetions of the magazine adverts mine will be simplistic with artist writing with a consistant colour pallet to add a professional look.
